Software Licensing Benchmarks 2026
We reviewed 0 popular developer tools and indie SaaS products and recorded how each one handles trials, license keys, and offline access — straight from their pricing pages and docs.
Counts reflect what each product's own pricing page or documentation states. A product only counts when the page says the answer explicitly — everything else stays unrecorded rather than guessed.
Methodology
What we counted, and what we left out.
Question: How do the tools developers use most actually handle trials, license keys, and offline access?
Collection dates: August 2026. Each product was checked once, using its official pricing page and public documentation as the only sources.
Inclusion rules: the list is a curated set of widely-used developer tools, indie SaaS products, and macOS/desktop utilities with public pricing pages. We did not cherry-pick products to support a conclusion — the list was fixed before data collection began.
What we recorded: pricing model, free tier, free trial, whether a credit card is required for the trial, whether the product uses or offers license keys, documented offline support, and self-hosting. A field is marked “unknown” unless the page states the answer explicitly.
Limits: this is a snapshot of marketing and documentation pages, not product telemetry. Pages change; each row links to the exact page we read so you can verify it. This study is descriptive — it makes no claim about what causes commercial success.

Dataset
Every product we reviewed.
| Product | Category | Pricing model | Free tier | Trial | License keys | Offline | Self-host | Source |

“—” = the source page does not state the answer. Rows link to the exact page reviewed.
If you sell software, these numbers are your market.
Only 0 of the 0 products we reviewed document license keys on their own pages, and only 0 document offline use — yet offline and air-gapped support is one of the first things desktop buyers ask for. Only 0 page states a credit card is required for its trial, while 0 explicitly say it isn't. That gap between buyer expectations and documented behavior is exactly where licensing decisions happen. Read the platform comparison or the offline licenses guide to turn these findings into a decision.
